Cool, Donsky. Finally an Auroran I can relate to. Thought mutual love of the Metropolitans would have done it, but they take their politics straight with no chaser and leave very little space for Mets stuff.
So, on to music. Totally agree with you on emo. Sucks. I'm definitely going to check out Big Dictator. Getting back on a Jewish tip, did you know that there was something of a vibrant Jewish Surf-Punk scene in the early 80's in LA: 1/2 original BLACK FLAG, THE CIRCLE JERKS, THE QUEERS and (I believe) THE DESCENDENTS.
Forgetting Dylan, we boast LOU REED, WARREN ZEVON, BEASTIES, JANE'S ADDICTION, HOLE (COURTNEY LOVE), RICHARD HELL, and MICK JONES of THE CLASH, although the other won from FOREIGNER wasn't terrible.
Started getting into deep-South ultra-indy death-metal (Gee whiz, I know my son will be into that in no time) and there are a bunch of good ones, with, I think, I HATE GOD, being the gold standard. My source for this stuff, a dude from Pensacola who now lives here, turned me on to NEUROSIS. How they hell did I miss those guys all these years.
Normally sign out with "Peace" but somehow that doesn't seem appropriate. And a real Auroran abhors sex and drugs. So, Donsky...
...Frank Zappa 4-ever,
Kelso

Oh, something I forgot. If you can find a video of any part of JOHNNY THUNDERS & THE HEARTBREAKERS LIVE AT MAX'S, please put up "Chinese Rocks".

Donsky likes to bail with no forwarding addy for his faithful contest enter..ers. Such that it is.
Sorry did not mean to interrupt the whole pride thing here, Kelso's cool.
Yes, Courtney Love. Rock on.

Milo Aukerman, Ph. D in Comparative Biology, legendary frontman for the Descendents, is whom you're thinking of.
Michael Rokhabit of NOFX deserves some attention. I happen to own his (of course) classic NOFX cd "White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean". He just doesn't care, I guess. "Fat Mike" has long been designated as "The funniest man in punk rock" by Maximum Rock n Roll. I hope you think that's kind of funny.
Since Milo and Fat Mike have destroyed any concupience of political fear in CA, it stands to reason that Jewish musicians and producers there have ceased to make emotional capital about simply being Jewish shaygitzes, and have definitely moved on. I am thinking about Epitaph records and Lookout records, to begin with. And then there is Aaron from Crimpshrine, the only band from San Francisco that makes one feel that one is actually in San Francisco. Berkeley, the band is from, actually.
And Noah Scape and Ben from the Econochrist crew at Vermiform/Ebullition. That's the band that has gotten the most respect, pound for pound, from serious polemicists down through the years.
Like I said, there's more. Political tension is no laughing mattter............

Descendents' Hallraker was a good buy. Live cd, good good sound. Uncannily positive.

Hey, just checking in, looking for some songs. Came to get some links to your stuff. What can I say, I like Big Dictator. What gal doesn't?
Donsky, your blog is sparse and is in need of TLC. You can install an mp3 player right in the sidebar, host some files at garagebands.com. I put an mp3 player on my GI blog if you want to see how I incorporated it. If you go to singingbox.net you can use colors, customize, change skins, and upload url's and your playlists.
Just saying...you're very talented.
